Access to the SAIS Library

The Johns Hopkins University Libraries offer a number of resources to SAIS alumni, ranging from access to the SAIS Library to fee-based borrowing privileges. There is no fee for in-library use of SAIS Library's resources, although you will need a valid JH Alumni Card or SAIS Library visitor's pass to ensure access to the Nitze Building.

In-library privileges may be limited based on availability of space (seating) and resources. Current Hopkins students will be given priority over alumni and other library guests.

You may request a pass at the Research Desk in person Monday - Friday, 9- 5 pm. Contact us at 202-663-5900 / saislibrary@jhu.edu

Alumni Borrowing

For alumni who would like to set up borrowing privileges for print materials, there are two levels of service:

  • SAIS only borrowing privileges  - $100 / year
  • All JHU Libraries borrowing privileges  - $200 / year

To request borrowing privileges, visit the SAIS Library Circulation Desk or email saislibrary@jhu.edu.

Note:  We regret that some of our e-book collections rely upon JHED authentication, on- or off-campus, so are not available to alumni. Alumni borrowing does not include interlibrary loan. However, please ask a research librarian for help in identifying a local library that may have the materials you want.

Summer Privileges for Recent SAIS Grads

New SAIS (May) graduates can extend their Library borrowing privileges through the end of summer with a $25 refundable deposit paid at the Circulation Desk. This applies to SAIS print books only (no ebooks).
